Polsinelli welcomes shareholder Adam S. Weiss to its Chicago office, continuing its growth here and across the country. The office opened in 2006 with just six attorneys and has since expanded to over 90 lawyers working in 12 practice areas.
“Adam is a great addition to our team,” said Polsinelli Intellectual Property Practice Vice Chair John A. Leja, also based in Chicago. “He brings a breadth of experience and relationships that greatly enhance our capacity to serve clients both here and nationally. This is a rapidly evolving area of law, so it’s essential that we have the flexibility and capacity not only to meet our clients’ immediate needs in securing their intellectual capital, but also to offer strategic advice for the continued protection, monetization and litigation of their intellectual property rights.”
Weiss, a Chicago-Kent alumnus, is experienced as both outside and in-house counsel. He has represented entities from small businesses to large corporations, including industry-leading companies and their largest brands. Instrumental in a case at the United States International Trade Commission in which the Commission first recognized common law trade dress rights, he has a proven record of favorable results in Federal court and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He also has hands-on experience partnering with Chicago’s entrepreneurial and startup community, where he has been a long time member of the Hyde Park Angels network and serves on the Advisory Board of the Chicago-Kent Entrepreneurship Program.
Weiss also spent four years as an adjunct professor at Chicago-Kent, teaching intellectual property research and writing courses.
“I’m thrilled to join Polsinelli,” Weiss said. “It’s an exciting place to be, with a culture that matches the energy and spirit of the start-up scene, and provides new opportunities for my traditional clients. We offer the deep bench of talent and experience of other national law firms and the unflinching drive to respond immediately to our clients’ needs, with a highly competitive fee structure.”
