Polsinelli welcomes Denise K. Drake to its Kansas City office as a shareholder in its national Labor & Employment Practice. Drake’s practice focuses on workplace investigations, discrimination and harassment, whistleblower actions, class actions, litigation and trials, training (compliance, ethics and leadership) and wage and hour matters. She was previously a shareholder with a prominent labor and employment boutique law firm.  

“Denise brings depth and strategy to our team, as well as years of experience handling a wide array of labor and employment matters and workplace issues,” said Labor and Employment Practice Chair Nancy E. Rafuse. “She is a highly-respected attorney in our practice area, representing management in all aspects of employment disputes, and we are excited to have her on board as we continue to grow our practice.” 

Drake is an experienced trial lawyer who has obtained verdicts on behalf of management in cases involving sexual harassment, sex discrimination, race discrimination, disability discrimination, age discrimination, retaliation and whistleblower claims. She represents clients in collective and class actions, as well as multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant employment actions and arbitrations and mediation. Drake will collaborate closely with Polsinelli’s Labor and Employment Practice, led by Rafuse and comprised of more than 50 attorneys coast to coast.

Drake is the Employer-Representative Chair of the 10th Annual National Conference for the American Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Division and has held several leadership positions with the organization, including Chair of the Labor and Employment Division’s Employment Rights and Responsibilities Committee. She has also held several former leadership positions with the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. Drake is a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and has been recognized as America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (Chambers USA; Tier 1), Best Lawyers in America, Top 250 Female Litigators in America (Benchmark Litigation), Who’s Who in American and International Law, Best of the Bar, a Legal Leader in Kansas City, among many others.  She earned her law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law, First in Class – C.C. Stewart Award. She holds a Master of Science degree, with honors, from Webster University and a Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, highest from Iowa State University.
