Polsinelli welcomes four health care attorneys, who join the country’s fourth largest Health Care Practice according to Modern Healthcare. The group, with a wide and diverse health care experience and knowledge base, includes two shareholders, one counsel and one associate who will practice nationally from Chicago, Denver, Kansas City and Washington, D.C. Polsinelli offices. Brian D. Bewley, John D. Shire, Lisa S. Katz and Ryan Morgan join a national practice offering clients a depth of resources and dedication to understanding the full range of business issues confronting all types of health care organizations across the United States.

“We continue to attract outstanding health care attorneys who have a deep understanding of our client’s businesses as well as the unique challenges that they face in today’s dynamic marketplace. Their unique experience and skills complement our existing group and ensure that we can offer our clients comprehensive representation on any health care issue anywhere in the country,” said Polsinelli Health Care Chair Matt Murer. “Brian, Lisa, John and Ryan embody qualities and the skill-set we look for in our attorneys and fit well into our culture.”

The new Health Care attorneys include:

• Shareholder Brian D. Bewley represents a wide variety of health care organizations in fraud and abuse and compliance matters. Bewley entered private practice in 2012 after spending many years operating as a senior attorney with both the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. Bewley now aggressively defends clients by identifying critical issues and spotting weaknesses in the government's case. He also works with clients by conducting internal investigations of alleged compliance issues to resolve these issues in the most equitable way for the client. Although his practice is national in scope, he will be located in the Kansas City, Missouri office of Polsinelli.

• Shareholder John D. Shire counsels public and private health companies and providers. He has years of experience as outside general counsel to a wide variety of local and large-scale national organizations. He is known by clients for accuracy, efficiency and “out-of-the-box” thinking in healthcare transactions and regulatory matters. Shire represents companies at the leading edge of innovation in health care delivery and technology. He also represents clients before federal and state agencies and licensing authorities with respect to compliance matters. Shire practices nationally out of the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

• Counselor Lisa S. Katz brings a hybrid skill set in both health care transactions and regulatory compliance in health care and the financial services industries. She represents hospitals and physicians groups as well as banks who lend to health care borrowers. She helps interpret a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters including HIPAA and privacy issues, Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and licensing and fraud. Katz carries her passion for health care law into her pro bono work for the National Health Law Program, the oldest nonprofit of its kind that protects and advances the health rights of low income and underserved individuals. In addition, she is actively involved as a member of the board of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys, and with the Children’s Research Fund Junior Board, Children's Memorial Hospital. Katz practices nationally out of the firm’s Chicago office.

• Associate Ryan Morgan previously served as in-house counsel for a large, nonprofit health system and for a pharmaceutical benefit management organization with significant insurer operations. His experience on both the provider and payor sides provides him with a big-picture perspective to offer tailored and creative legal advice for clients’ business challenges. He has broad experience successfully advising a variety of health care transactional and regulatory issues. Morgan practices in Denver as part of the firm’s national Health Care Practice.
