The Council of Appellate Lawyers (CAL) has elected Leane K. Capps, a shareholder with Polsinelli, as its Chair. Capps' practice focuses on commercial litigation and appeals. The election occurred on November 14, 2015 during the annual Appellate Judges Education Institute (AJEI) Summit. This year, the AJEI Summit occurred in Washington, D.C. Working with AJEI, CAL sponsors and develops continuing legal education programs taught by the country’s most distinguished appellate judges and practitioners. This year’s Summit brought together many of the nation’s most prominent appellate professionals, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, who was the opening speaker.

“I’m honored to serve as the Chair of the Council of Appellate Lawyers, which is one of the most outstanding professional groups that I have had the privilege of being a part of since the beginning of my legal career,” said Capps. “The professional and personal relationships I have formed and the outstanding lawyers and judges that I have met through this organization have been some of the most rewarding of my career.”

The Council of Appellate Lawyers is the first and only national appellate bench-bar organization in the country. CAL is a committee in the Appellate Judges Conference and also works with the AJEI. The organization’s mission is to foster a dialogue between federal and state appellate lawyers and judges, with the purpose of improving appellate practice and strengthening ties among the numerous appellate bar associations.

Capps has been actively involved in the Council of Appellate Lawyers for more than ten years, and advises clients nationally from Polsinelli’s Dallas office on commercial litigation and appellate matters. She represents clients in a wide variety of industries involving technology, aviation, collegiate sports and energy. Capps has been named in the Best Lawyers in America and Texas Super Lawyers for commercial litigation and appeals.

“We are very proud of Leane for being elected Chair of the Council for Appellate Lawyers, the first and only national appellate bench-bar organization. Her election highlights not only her skill and national reputation as an appellate lawyer, but also Polsinelli’s dual commitments to appellate practice and leadership within the organized bar,” said Polsinelli’s Litigation Department Chair Russ Jones.
