Event Drew Appellate Judges, Lawyers, and Staff Attorneys From Across the Country

Polsinelli Shareholder Leane K. Capps facilitated a recent discussion with Justice Elena Kagan of the Supreme Court of the United States before appellate judges, lawyers and staff attorneys from across the country.

Capps facilitated the conversation at the Appellate Judges Education Institute (AJEI) 2016 Summit Nov. 10-13 in Philadelphia. The event also marked the close of Capps’ term as Chair of the Council of Appellate Lawyers (CAL), which is the only national appellate bench-bar organization in the country. CAL is a committee in the Appellate Judges Conference and works with the AJEI to sponsor and develop continuing legal education programs taught by the country’s most distinguished appellate judges and practitioners.

“It was an honor to be able to facilitate this discussion as the Chair of CAL,” said Capps, who will remain on CAL’s executive board in charge of its long-term planning. “Our goal is to foster dialogue between federal and state appellate lawyers and judges to improve the appellate practice and strengthening ties among the numerous appellate bar associations. The relationships I’ve made over the past decade through CAL and the AJEI have been some of the most rewarding of my career.”

Capps advises clients nationally from Polsinelli’s Dallas office on commercial litigation and appellate matters. She is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has been repeatedly selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® for Appellate Practice.
