Corporate Counsel has released its 2014 Patent Litigation Survey list, ranking national law firm Polsinelli at No. 40 among the Top 50 firms in the number of patent lawsuits handled in U.S. federal courts during 2013. It is Polsinelli’s first appearance on the list. The firm, with a geographic footprint across 19 cities, defended 27 lawsuits and filed eight for a total of 35 cases in 2013.
“It is a privilege to be recognized as one of the nation’s top law firms in defending and enforcing our clients’ rights in their valuable technology and intellectual property,” said Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Chair Keith J. Grady. “Challenges to patents have been on the rise all across the country, and Polsinelli has responded by building a strong and diverse team of more than 80 intellectual property law professionals who understand our clients' businesses and effectively enforce and defend our clients’ rights in courts and other dispute resolution forums.
Corporate Counsel is a nationally respected, integrated media source covering legal affairs, business issues, and government mandates affecting corporate America and the in-house legal community. According to the publication, 6,092 new patent lawsuits were filed in 2013, compared to a total of 5,418 new cases in 2012. Corporate Counsel said not surprisingly, non practicing entities known as “patent trolls” were a major factor in the growth of patent challenge cases.
“We also stand ready to defend our clients against unjust accusations that they are infringing a patent,” Grady added. “We avoid litigation where possible, but it’s best to move quickly to defend and enforce our clients’ rights wherever necessary.”
Polsinelli's patent litigation experience includes cases involving:
- Paragraph IV disputes under the Hatch-Waxman Act
- Animal health sciences
- Software and information technology
- Medical devices
- Telecommunications, electronics, and mechanical devices
- Business methods
- Design patents
- Trademark litigation, opposition and cancellation practice
- Internet domain name disputes
