Polsinelli welcomes Gerard A. Hefner and Sharon Hwang to the firm’s national Real Estate Finance Practice. They will serve clients nationally on sophisticated real estate finance matters from the firm’s growing New York office. Hefner and Hwang combined bring more than 40-years experience advising clients on complex commercial real estate matters. They join a practice and office that has continually expanded during the past several years.
“Our New York office and Real Estate Finance Practice continues to expand based on what our clients’ need,” said Real Estate and Financial Services Department Chair Dan Flanigan, who also manages the New York office of Polsinelli. “We’re pleased both Gerard and Sharon selected our firm and their extensive, practical experience will benefit our clients and our firm as a whole.”
Polsinelli’s Real Estate Finance attorneys represents real estate lending clients, including CMBS lenders, insurance companies, funds, banks and other financial institutions, in acquisition, construction, bridge, permanent and mezzanine financing transactions of all sizes and complexities, involving real estate across the country. They have closed thousands of commercial mortgage loans secured by property in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The firm also represents lending clients, as well as some of the largest commercial loan servicers in the country, in the administration and servicing of commercial real estate loans.
Hefner’s in-depth legal knowledge allows him to effectively guide clients through complex matters. He concentrates his practice on commercial real estate, with emphasis on financing and the workout of distressed real estate. He earned his law degree and B.A. magna cum laude from St. John’s University.

Hwang’s experience includes the representation of institutional lenders in loan originations, developers and real estate investors in acquisitions and dispositions of commercial property. Hwang focuses her practice on the origination of mortgage loans to be securitized and understands the different types of collateral including office buildings, shopping centers, and multi-family residential properties. She earned her law degree from Boston College and her B.A. from Yale University.
