The Kansas City Missouri Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA) installed Russell Jones as president at its Annual Meeting at the Sheraton Hotel Crown Center, December 11, 2015. The prestigious leadership role is for one-year and is the cumulative work of Jones’ longtime involvement with the Bar. Jones also chairs Polsinelli’s Litigation Department and has practiced for more than 35 years in Kansas City.
“I’m honored to take on this role following the steady hand and calming leadership of 2015 President Scott Bethune,” stated Jones to a packed crowd of lawyers and judges. “I’d also like to thank KCMBA Executive Director Vickie Schatz and her excellent staff. Without them, the KCMBA would not be the second largest non-profit in the metro, and one of the most successful.”
Jones outlined his four priorities during his tenure:
- Continuing to advance the careers of women lawyers so that they “play a fully equal role in boardrooms and courtrooms throughout the metro.”
- Fully engaging young lawyers in the KCMBA and helping them build their law practices.
- Engaging all lawyers in the KCMBA, “from small and large firms, civil and criminal, plaintiff and defense, corporate and trial lawyers.”
- Fully implementing the recommendations of the KCMBA’s Governance Task Force and Boar which adopted new structures and ways of operating,
“A year from now, my hope is turn over to President-Elect Dan Blegen a KCMBA that is stronger, more vibrant and more inclusive than ever before,” said Jones.
Jones leads Polsinelli’s Litigation Department, which includes more than 250 coast to coast. In addition to his management duties, he protects business clients from claims based on patent infringement, class actions, contracts and business torts. Jones is a veteran of state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution forums across the United States. He serves clients in a variety of industries including telecommunications, financial services, licensing, manufacturing, and consumer products. Jones earned his law degree from Duke University School of Law, where he was a member of Order of the Coif, and graduated cum laude
from Yale University with his bachelor of arts. He’s a married father of three and is proud that one of his daughters is a lawyer and one is currently in law school.
