Polsinelli to Sponsor State Bar of California’s Labor & Employment Law Section Grant Program
Deadline for 2017-2018 Grant Cycle is July 3
Polsinelli’s Chuck Thompson is encouraging organizations to compete for a portion of $30,000 in available grant funds through The State Bar of California’s Labor & Employment Law Section Grant Program.
Thompson is vice chair of Polsinelli’s Labor and Employment practice and serves as office managing partner of the firm’s San Francisco office
. He is also chair of the Grant Subcommittee of the Labor and Employment Section of The State Bar of California.
“Collectively, our 7,500 section members are looking forward to extending the educational reach of the Bar and help underserved populations,” Thompson said. “Six to 8 grants will be awarded to organizations that exemplify our mission.”
To obtain funding, recipients’ projects or events must meet at least one of the following goals:
- To educate practitioners of all backgrounds in the practice of labor and employment law;
- To promote persons of diverse backgrounds in the population of practitioners in the area of employment or labor law; or
- To educate the general public about labor and employment law.
Past grant recipients include the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, The Legal Aid Society Employment Law Center, and the Foundation for Advocacy, Inclusion & Resources, to name a few. Grant monies have funded a variety of programs and projects benefiting both labor law practitioners and the public. Some projects include continuing legal education seminars on social media and workplace violence; outreach programs related to employment law that help to increase cultural, gender, sexual orientation and racial diversity among employment law practitioners; and, publications related to job protections, workplace accommodations and leaves for workers who are adding to their family or facing a health or safety crisis.
Polsinelli is an Am Law 100 firm with approximately 800 attorneys practicing across 20 offices coast to coast. More than 40 attorneys have joined its three California offices since January 2015.
