Polsinelli Shareholder Tara Nealey Receives Client Choice Award

Tara A. Nealey, shareholder in the Intellectual Property Department of national law firm Polsinelli, was recognized with a 2017 Client Choice Award for client service based on feedback from senior corporate counsel. One lawyer per state was selected in each practice area.

“This prestigious recognition is well deserved and reflects Tara’s deep commitment to our clients’ on-going success,” said Keith J. Grady, chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Litigation practices. “I am proud to call her my colleague and congratulate her on this outstanding recognition.”

Presented by Lexology and the International Law Office, the Client Choice Awards recognize law firms and partners around the world known for adding value to clients’ businesses above and beyond other players in the market. Nominations are made by in-house counsel who rate lawyers on criteria such as quality of legal advice, value for the money, commercial awareness, effective communication, billing transparency, tailored fee structures, response time, and use of technology.

Notably, nominators said of Nealey that “she is knowledgeable and speaks in plain language, providing commercially relevant advice on how to handle the subtleties of US patent law” and “Tara remains calm, supportive, collaborative and transparent throughout even the most complex and time-critical processes.”

Polsinelli’s IP team is one of the largest practices in the nation, comprised of more than 120 attorneys, patent agents and scientists working in cities coast to coast. Based in Polsinelli’s St. Louis office, Nealey uses her background in academic physiology research to advise clients with intellectual property questions related to life science technologies. After completing her Ph.D. in neurophysiology followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in retinal research, she moved to the practice of patent law.

Nealey’s experience encompasses two decades of providing patent counsel to clients including individual inventors, public and private universities and research institutions, start-up companies, mid-size firms and Fortune 500 companies. She has led outside counsel teams advising clients on IP aspects of corporate transactions valued from the several millions to billions of dollars. In addition to counseling clients on the development and enforcement of their patent portfolios, she prepares freedom to operate and patent invalidity opinions, conducts patent landscaping, and analyzes in and out licenses of patented technologies.
