Polsinelli welcomes highly experienced patent attorney John R. Bednarz as an associate to the national firm. With background and experience in obtaining and enforcing patents relating to the computer industry, Bednarz will practice in the firm’s national Science and Technology Group. Prior to joining Polsinelli, Bednarz worked at a number of intellectual property boutiques in the Washington area, where his practice focused on all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, as well as U.S. post-grant proceedings related to internet systems, graphics processing, communications, mobile devices, database security, computer architectures, user interfaces and business methods.
“Polsinelli’s growing and sophisticated capabilities in science and technology law attracted me to the firm,” Bednarz said. “The work the firm does for clients is very rewarding and I am very excited about the opportunity to collaborate with some of the country’s brightest legal minds in intellectual property and patent law.”
The Science and Technology practice consists of attorneys in Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Phoenix, St. Louis and, with the addition of Bednarz, Washington, D.C. They focus on a wide range of issues for entrepreneurs in a variety of areas including clean technology, computer devices, biotechnology, chemical, electronics, food science, pharmaceutical and medical devices.
“We are extremely pleased to have a IP attorney with John’s depth of experience join our team,” said Polsinelli Science and Technology Chair Patrick C. Woolley. “We are growing our practice group in strategic ways to best serve our clients locally, nationally and internationally.”
Bednarz has developed multiple iOS applications that are available for download at the Apple App Store. He also has a deep understanding of a variety of programming languages, including C/C#, Java, XML, HTML, and SQL. He also has developed his applications under a variety of operating systems including Solaris, Linux, Mac OS and Windows.
The addition of Bednarz occurs during an exciting period of overall growth for Polsinelli, which has seen its national footprint expand to nine states and 16 cities. The firm was listed by Inc. Magazine in 2012 as the fastest-growing, full service law firm in America. The Washington, D.C. office, which opened in 2005, and recently ranked (Tier 1) by US News-Best Lawyers: Best Law Firms, for government relations in the District of Columbia, continues to grow its strong public policy practice to meet client needs.
Bednarz earned his law degree from Syracuse University College of Law in 2008 after earning his B.S. degree in Computer Science, cum laude, from Bucknell University in 2005. He has been admitted to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the American Bar Association and American Intellectual Property Law Association.
