Polsinelli Attorney David Schultz Appointed Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner

Polsinelli congratulates David K. Schultz on his appointment as a Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner, following the conclusion of his legal practice at the firm and his transition to public service this month. Schultz has been a shareholder in Polsinelli’s Los Angeles office for more than 10 years.

Commissioners are selected through a highly competitive process conducted by the judges of Los Angeles County Superior Court. Schultz was chosen from a large pool of highly accomplished applicants following extensive vetting, ranking and a vote of the court’s roughly 500 judges. His selection is particularly notable given that appointments of civil practitioners to commissioner roles are rare. The role is widely regarded as a significant milestone and a recognized path to the bench.

“David’s appointment reflects his exceptional legal judgment, professionalism and commitment to the law,” said Noel S. Cohen, Co-Managing Partner of the Los Angeles Office and Chair of Polsinelli’s Commercial Litigation Practice. “His transition to public service is well earned and it speaks to both the career he has built and the caliber of litigators at Polsinelli.”

David is certified by the State Bar of California as a specialist in appellate law and brings more than 30 years of experience litigating high-exposure matters at trial and before the courts of appeal. He has handled complex cases across California and other jurisdictions, including Nevada, Hawaii, Arizona and Utah, and has successfully briefed and argued appeals reversing large verdicts and affirming favorable judgments. As lead appellate counsel, he briefed and argued appeals reversing large verdicts with judgment entered for defendants and affirming favorable outcomes arising from jury verdicts, dispositive motions, nonsuits, summary judgments, demurrers and terminating sanctions. His work has also resulted in published appellate decisions that have helped shape long-term litigation and business strategies.
