Barb Rand has been involved with employee benefits for more than 28 years as both a valued legal resource as well as a business leader for two large publicly traded companies. Barb's unique background enables her to assist clients with developing strategic, practical, and efficient solutions when addressing legal issues that arise with employee benefits.

Barb started her legal career as in house counsel for an insurance company and then a financial institution, where she advised the operations and product departments of these companies about ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code, primarily focusing on qualified retirement plans and annuity products and plans. 

From there, Barb moved on to private practice and eventually became a partner in the employee benefits department of a large firm. She advised clients of all sizes regarding employee benefits in retirement, health, and welfare, as well as executive and equity compensation—with a particular emphasis on employee benefits issues associated with mergers and acquisitions. 

  • Represented a Fortune 500 company with developing plan documents for their employee benefit plans as well as addressing day to day legal issues that arose. 
  • Assisted a publicly traded technology company with the acquisition of another publicly traded company both of whom had complex equity compensation plans in place. 
  • Successfully managed an IRS audit of for a jumbo qualified retirement plan. 
  • Developed and rolled out one of the first "total replacement" Consumer Drive Health Plans in the country.
