Charles Thompson combines a deep understanding of Labor and Employment law with a dedication to clients in order to positively impact their businesses. As chair of the firm's Employment Class Actions practice, Charles represents clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to Silicon Valley start-ups in California and throughout the nation through all phases of employment litigation. He has tried employment, commercial, and professional liability cases to verdict and directed verdict, and is experienced in every facet of litigation including California State Courts up to the United States Supreme Court.
Having handled over 1,000 employment matters, Charles has extensive experience litigating all employment-related issues for public and private companies, including:
- Americans with Disabilities Act
- Sexual harassment
- Discrimination and wrongful termination matters
- Sexual assault
- Wage and hour
- Catastrophic cases
He has represented employers in wage and hour cases, as well as class actions, in both state and federal courts across the United States and has significant experience appearing before the:
- California Department of Fair Employment and Housing
- Division of Labor Standards Enforcement
- Employment Development Department
- United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Department of Labor
In addition to his trial and counseling work, Charles actively serves as a private and judicial mediator and arbitrator, volunteers as an arbitrator for the San Francisco and Marin County Courts, and has acted as a mediator upon request.
Charles is a regular invited speaker at continuing education bar association events throughout the nation. He often lectures on a wide variety of civil litigation subjects, including all facets of employment litigation and developments, effective discovery techniques, trial strategy, and ethics.
Charles leads the Western Regions diversity committee. He is a member of the California Diversity Council and has actively supported and promoted diversity efforts throughout his career. He recently was honored to present the award for Diversity Council of the Year at the Bay Area Corporate Council awards and collaborates with clients on diversity issues.
