Elton’s practice involves preparing and prosecuting domestic and, international utility and design patent applications in the mechanical, medical device, optical communications, electronics, and electromechanical fields. His experience includes technologies that range from medical imaging systems and controls, to intravascular medical devices, to dental and surgical tools, to industrial fluid systems and controls, to optical communication systems, to semiconductor devices, to novel integrated circuits & PCB manufacturing, and to consumer products, among others. Elton’s clients include large, Fortune 100 companies, where he works in partnership with in-house counsel to start-ups, and solo inventors. Elton also works with a diverse range of foreign associates to execute patent and other intellectual property projects on a global scale.

With more than a decade of experience and an extensive academic background, Elton’s ability to identify and address the technical issues involved in any given matter is both thorough and precise. Additionally, Elton is adapt at helping clients identify other unrecognized potential innovations. As a result, Elton is skilled at identifying, understanding, and articulating the inventive aspects of patent applications for both inventors, clients, and patent examiners alike. Elton works diligently with U.S. and foreign patent examiners to achieve the objectives of his clients.

Elton also recognizes that not all innovations and his clients’ interests are best protect by utility patent applications. As such, Elton also has over a decade of experience securing design patent and trademark protections for clients.

After patents are obtained, Elton continues to deliver for his clients by providing invaluable technical insight in portfolio management and strategy. Elton also prepares legal opinions regarding a client’s freedom to operate in crowded technology areas and works with clients to obtain additional IP rights through acquisitions and licensing.

 

 

  • Developed and cultivated an extensive international portfolio for multiple generations of multiple product lines for an intravascular medical device company.
  • Prepared and prosecuted an international portfolio for multiple generations a medical device for neonatal patients.
  • Performed due diligence reviews and prepared landscape opinions for the acquisition of a large multi-discipline patent portfolio.
  • Worked with several small startups to prepare patent applications or patentability opinions that were used to secure additional investor funding.
  • Managing and growing he patent portfolio for a client with more than 100 issued patents and over 30 pending patent applications.
  • Identified several technical and legal red flags in a patent portfolio considered for acquisition by a large international corporation.
  • Conducted numerous Examiner interviews on behalf of clients.
  • Developed and maintained trademark portfolio for a leading electronics manufacturer.
