Maria Hubbard works closely with clients to determine the most effective legal strategies based on the client’s specific matter goals and overall business objectives. As an Associate in the Insurance Recovery practice, she focuses on assisting corporate policyholders obtain the benefit of their insurance policies, including general liability, builders risk, professional liability, directors & officers liability, cyber insurance, and errors & omissions. 

Collaborating with seasoned attorneys, Maria also assists clients through all stages of complex commercial litigation disputes in federal and state courts and arbitrations. Maria has experience in all aspects of litigation including drafting everything from initial pleadings to jury instructions, taking depositions, conducting efficient discovery, and arguing motions in court.

Prior to working at Polsinelli, Maria clerked for the Honorable Ann A. Scott Timmer on the Arizona Supreme Court. Her experience working for a state appellate court, combined with her experience as an extern for the Honorable David C. Bury on the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, provides her with a high-level understanding of every stage of litigation, as well as valuable insight into the reasoning and thought processes that go into judicial decisions.

  • Assisted the team in formulating the arguments for coverage under an environmental clean-up policy after insurance carrier denied coverage for the accidental release of a hazardous material, resulting in a recovery to the client in excess of $1.5 million.
  • Assisted the team in representing insured client in bad faith litigation after surplus lines insurance carrier denied coverage under site pollution liability policy for a pipeline release of hydrofracturing exploration and production wastewater from a pipeline failure, resulting in a $750,000 settlement with the insurance carrier. 
  • Assisted the team in formulating arguments for coverage under a commercial general liability policy, resulting in the insurance carrier fully funding  client’s settlement of underlying lawsuit with landlord for damage caused by leaking water pipes and sauna. 
  • Second-chaired AAA arbitration for a software company involving claims of breach of contract and copyright infringement.
  • Drafted successful motion to dismiss, which ended spurious lawsuit against mental health clinic client.
