She represents individual officers and directors, entrepreneurs, and publicly traded and privately held businesses in industries including the banking and financial, health, energy, insurance, manufacturing, and professional services industries.

Paula has also represented clients in both state and federal trial and appellate courts. She has successfully defended appeals in the areas of professional negligence, trusts and estates, business torts, and contract disputes.

Beyond her usual areas of practice, Paula is also committed to public service through extensive pro bono work in the areas of constitutional law, immigration law, housing discrimination, and family law. She won political asylum for a client from Africa, successfully appealed a prisoner’s rights case, and successfully argued before the chief judge of the Seventh Circuit in a case involving procedural due process.

  • Obtained a successful settlement in a multi-million dollar tort case involving multiple fatalities and claims for wrongful death and products liability.
  • In defending a client in a bet-the-company litigation involving a damages claim for more than $700 million, worked closely with the client and led a team of 12 lawyers in a complex e-discovery process involving millions of documents.
  • Manages claims in the Chicago area for an international energy client to resolve defaults on commercial energy contracts.
  • Obtained dismissal of claims filed against a builder arising from alleged defects in construction of student housing for a higher education institution.
  • Works closely with geotechnical experts to facilitate the resolution of an arbitration in favor of a shopping mall owner and developer.
  • Successfully obtained a temporary injunction in favor of employer in a case involving misappropriation of trade secrets and achieved a favorable settlement for the client by working closely with a computer forensic expert.
  • Successfully defended against the institution of injunctions against owners of long-term care facilities.
  • Assisted in obtaining dismissal in multiple securities fraud cases on behalf of financial institutions.
