Tom Guillen has always been a problem-solver, and his business experience prior to attending law school often required him to find new ways to do so. As Director of Customer Service for an internet start-up, he managed a team of more than 30 sales service representatives and was expected to make final policy decisions. It was through dealing with a varied customer base of more than 30,000 subscribers where he learned that each client is unique and deserves to be treated as so. Those years in sales and service allowed Tom to step right in and assist in the practice of litigation where he gained experience as a law clerk with three different law firms while completing his degree. Tom can follow a well-worn path if it gets the client where he or she needs to go and can carve a new path when necessary. He can do this by working directly with clients to better understand their needs.

While at Polsinelli Tom has managed hundreds of cases for clients beginning with answering the initial complaint and ending with a dismissal for the client, or a settlement that our client can be happy with. Tom has participated in hundreds of depositions as part of his primary practice. He has drafted Answers to Interrogatories, Complaints, and a Request for Temporary Restraining Order in Illinois State Court. Tom was second on the trial team for a pro bono case in Federal Court representing a plaintiff in an action against 19 defendants. In that action he drafted responsive pleadings, Motions in limine, and jury instructions, participated in the pre-trial conference and jury instruction negotiations in the judge’s chambers. And cross-examined 7 of those defendants.
