Rather than build an entire legal team in-house, many nonprofits partner with Polsinelli to fill these needs on an outsourced basis. Working closely with our clients, we gain an in-depth understanding of each nonprofit’s mission and activities. Because of this, we can provide focused, client-centered, and cost-effective advice and counsel on legal issues confronting clients on a daily basis, helping clients focus on furthering their mission.
General counsels typically help guide nonprofits by providing, at a minimum, general legal advice and contract review. However, a general counsel will also often manage more complex incoming legal matters by finding and delegating to others who specialize in a particular area of law (e.g., employment, intellectual property or real estate). General counsel can help manage these legal matters on a day-to-day basis and translate the nonprofit’s mission and priorities to the other counsel to ensure proper alignment of goals.
In our role as outside general counsel, we typically receive the first call when our clients encounter issues with legal implications. Our cross-disciplinary team members have experience working and leading nonprofits and, thus, have often grappled with and resolved similar challenges. We also benefit from calling on our colleagues who are leaders in their fields to bring expertise to bear on the most complicated issues. Acting as strategic advisors to our clients, we work swiftly and effectively with diverse practices throughout the firm to implement the right solutions and resolve the matter at hand with an eye toward the future.
We understand and act in light of our client’s mission, operations, history and future goals when serving as outside general counsel. We provide efficient, thoughtful and innovative solutions to our clients’ business-related legal issues.
