When ICE Knocks: What Employers Should Know About Navigating ICE Audits and Raids

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) worksite audits and raids can happen at almost any time. These actions can be unexpected and disrupt normal operations. Employers must be prepared to respond appropriately while protecting their employees and ensuring compliance with the law.  ICE is aggressively investigating employers to determine compliance with the Immigration laws and to detain employees who lack proper authorization to work. ss how ICE begins an investigation against an employer, the nuts and bolts of the investigative process and the potential penalties and repercussions for the employer. Finally, health care providers have special obligations related to patient and data privacy that further complicate interactions with ICE and other law enforcement.
