- Represented the interests of long term care providers in Illinois by drafting state legislation and testifying before legislative committees to develop law and policy for healthcare providers.
- Successfully appealed state and federal survey deficiencies on behalf of skilled nursing facilities resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines, civil money penalties and restoration of facility quality ratings.
- Drafted, implemented and provided training on policies, procedures and protocols for various types of healthcare providers to address operational and regulatory issues to improve care delivery and reduce liability.
- Assisted a behavioral health hospital in extending an imminent termination from the Medicare and Medicaid programs following a survey alleging immediate jeopardy, which included preparing and filing a temporary restraining order and request for preliminary injunction against the Federal Agency in Federal Court.
- Represented licensed health care providers in challenges to their professional licenses before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, obtaining full dismissal against all allegations.
- Collaborated with a large hospital system to develop a process and issue-specific response templates to efficiently and effectively respond to and appeal from Recovery Audit Contractor audits.
- Represented long term care providers in defense of involuntary transfer and discharge actions before the Illinois Department of Health to ensure safety and prevent operational challenges.
- Represented a skilled nursing facility in a fraud claim against family that misrepresented resident assets and payor source to the facility's detriment. Resulted in a favorable settlement to the facility, including attorney’s fees.
- Negotiated favorable settlements with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and avoided termination on behalf of a laboratory alleged to have engaged in a proficiency testing referral in violation of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments statute.
- Assisted a hospital with revisions to its Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act policy and its return to substantial compliance with Medicare conditions after the hospital was alleged to have committed a violation of EMTALA.
- Represented medical equipment supplier before State Medicaid agency to refute compliance audit findings alleging extrapolated over-payment and successfully overturn findings and reduce alleged overpayment by more than 98%.
