Trey Reliford is a shareholder and first-chair trial attorney who represents clients in high-stakes, complex commercial business disputes. With more than a decade of experience across all phases of litigation, Trey has successfully represented clients both nationally and internationally, as well as locally in Nashville. His clients range from Fortune 500 companies, private equity firms, middle-market enterprises and startups to executives, sports franchises, athletes, artists, producers and entertainment industry professionals.

Trey advises clients in a wide range of corporate and business disputes, including matters involving securities, corporate governance, fiduciary duties, fraud, unfair competition, restrictive covenants, trade secrets, and intellectual property. His experience includes litigating non-disclosure, non-compete and non-solicitation disputes, as well as copyright and trademark matters. Trey regularly assists clients in resolving contentious shareholder and member disputes, including “business divorces,” and represents clients in connection with federal and state regulatory investigations.

In addition to his litigation practice, Trey serves as outside general counsel to companies and startups. In this role, he provides strategic, business-oriented guidance to entrepreneurs and business owners on entity formation, contract negotiation, governance issues, capital raising, and risk management. He also assists clients in structuring and scaling their businesses, negotiating and enforcing commercial agreements, resolving founder and shareholder disputes, and protecting intellectual property—both through enforcement actions and by defending against claims.

Clients value Trey’s ability to combine practical business insight with aggressive and effective advocacy, delivering results both in and out of the courtroom.

Trey previously served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Jeffrey S. Bivins of the Tennessee Supreme Court from 2016 to 2017. Before entering the legal profession, he worked as an English teacher in Chiba, Japan.
