The innovative spirit of the firm’s clients inspires and motivates Greg Durbin to go the extra mile for them. As a former practicing electrical engineer, he understands technology. Just as important, he understands the business objectives of startups, investors, and companies that view intellectual property as a core business driver, and he can tailor a strategy and budget to fit those objectives.

Greg’s practice involves the full spectrum of patent matters. At its core, however, is patent portfolio management — preparing, filing, and prosecuting strategic patents, both in the United States and internationally. Greg is currently most active in:
  • Telecommunications
  • Computer hardware
  • Enterprise software
  • Health care information technology
  • Content delivery
  • Fitness products and fitness technology
  • Energy technology (drilling, completions, data acquisition and processing, carbon sequestration, nuclear fusion)
  • Data center products and services
  • High-voltage electronics
  • Vehicle systems
  • Graphical user interfaces
Greg is also consistently involved with design-around efforts, due diligence, freedom-to-operate, and other patent assessments that are associated with new product introductions, mergers and acquisitions, and investments. He is often engaged by private equity and venture capital groups to assess an organization’s intellectual property prior to an investment and then to develop the portfolio after the investment.

Frequently involved in patent litigation, Greg typically works with a trial team to develop the overall strategy, develop key technical and legal positions, and is intimately involved with claim construction, dispositive motions, expert reports, trial preparations, and settlement negotiations.

As an attorney who is involved in all aspects of the life of a patent for a wide spectrum of technologies and organizations, Greg brings a unique and deep perspective to his work.
