Little changes can mean big dollars for Shared Savings ACOs

Neal Shah weighs in on several proposed changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP), including CMS's effort to rebalance financial incentives between ACO participation tracks and reduce opportunities for "passive" shared savings. He highlights a proposal allowing certain ACOs to reduce or eliminate Part B cost sharing, noting that it could support beneficiary engagement while giving providers a clearer path to avoid compliance risks associated with waiving copays. Shah also notes that proposed reimbursement changes could further encourage providers to participate in MSSP and LEAD ACOs, while raising compliance questions about the additional work providers will be expected to perform.
