Robert Sweeter advises companies and investors on mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions, finance and distressed situations, with particular experience in health care transactions and financially complex acquisitions. Drawing on substantial in-house and private-practice experience, he brings a practical understanding of the commercial, financial and operational issues that shape transactions and business decisions. His experience spans health care, manufacturing, technology, energy, retail and real estate.

Robert’s in-house experience includes serving as general counsel and a founding member of the executive team of a nationwide technology marketplace platform. In that role, he advised on corporate governance, financing, strategic and commercial transactions, and the legal issues arising from building and operating a growing business.

He later held senior legal roles with a Swiss-based global building materials manufacturer, advising business leaders on acquisitions, strategic initiatives and complex commercial matters. He also led the enterprise-wide legal function supporting sourcing and supply chain operations and served as lead counsel to the company’s global trading business, where he advised on cross-border commercial transactions and international sales.

Earlier in his career, Robert practiced in the financial restructuring groups of international law firms, representing lenders, unsecured creditors, investors and companies in distressed acquisitions, out-of-court restructurings and Chapter 11 proceedings. His experience includes distressed health care transactions involving companies and assets, as well as matters in the retail, energy, real estate and technology sectors. He brings that restructuring background to M&A transactions involving financial distress, complex capital structures, liquidity constraints and competing stakeholder interests.
