Allessandra Stewart is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer who has successfully guided health care clients through internal audits and reimbursement disputes, False Claims Act (FCA) cases, criminal investigations, and litigation between payors and providers. She focuses her federal practice on Administrative Procedure Act (APA) challenges to agency action, and frequently addresses statistical sampling, extrapolated overpayment demands, and constitutional due process issues in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement disputes.
With a background as a federal prosecutor and civil litigator, Allessandra brings a wealth of experience working with government agencies to her role. Her work encompasses a broad spectrum of matters, including parallel criminal and civil proceedings, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and money laundering investigations, Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) and bank fraud cases, wiretap investigations, tax fraud and public corruption.
Before joining Polsinelli, Allessandra served for 12 years as a federal prosecutor, including as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of South Carolina and the District of Columbia, and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Western District of Virginia. In those roles, she led jury and bench trials, investigated and indicted complex white-collar and violent crime cases, and drafted and argued procedural and substantive motions. She also handled appellate matters before the Fourth Circuit, District Courts in Virginia and South Carolina, and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Earlier in her career, Allessandra was a civil litigator at a global law firm, where she handled contract and intellectual property disputes, product liability actions, corporate criminal investigations and antitrust issues.
