Andrew Weaver advises technology and life sciences companies on creating, building, protecting, enforcing, defending and commercializing intellectual property rights, with a focus on patents, trade secrets and trade dress and related strategies. He counsels clients on U.S. and international patent strategy, coordinating with foreign associates to support clients’ global filing and enforcement plans. His experience includes licensing and worldwide portfolio development, and he has worked onsite with clients in Canada, China, Israel, Japan and Sweden, giving him practical experience helping clients manage intellectual property issues across jurisdictions and business cultures.

Andrew’s practice includes preparing and prosecuting patents, as well as advising clients on patent opinions, reexaminations, reissues and derivations. His prosecution work includes patents that later became central to enforcement efforts. He also helps clients develop comprehensive intellectual property strategies that include trademark, copyright and trade secret protection, aligning their intellectual property portfolios with broader business objectives.

In addition to his patent practice, Andrew serves as a strategic legal advisor to clients. He works closely with business and technical teams to identify legal needs early, develop efficient strategies and connect clients with the broader resources of Polsinelli when additional capabilities are needed. Before law school, Andrew earned a degree in mechanical engineering. His engineering experience includes designing ceramic ball valves, biomedical devices and metering systems, building a prototype for an inventor seeking patent protection, developing a computer program for a Fortune 500 corporation, and teaching lab courses in material science, thermal fluids and heat transfer. This technical background informs his practical approach to protecting client’s current and future intellectual property.
