Erik Martin is dedicated to providing practical legal solutions to health care clients’ real world problems. His practice focuses on medical staff, peer review, clinical research and health care operations and regulatory compliance matters.

Erik partners with hospitals and health systems to advise them in areas of medical staff governance development and implementation. He specializes in drafting and revising medical staff bylaws, credentials policies, fair hearing and appeals manuals, rules and regulations, and policies and procedures. His experience also includes guiding clients through the daily challenges of credentialing and privileging, peer review and governing body relationships. He partners closely with clients across the country to guide them through the nuanced legal challenges and practical pitfalls of managing medical staff structure, self-governance and the peer review process to optimize the potential of the medical staff as a valuable asset in the efficient operation of a facility and the delivery of high-quality and safe patient care.

Erik works closely with academic medical centers, research institutions, small sponsors, startups, and data brokers on research and clinical trial matters. He has guided several of the nation’s largest academic medical centers and research institutions in developing and strengthening research management and research billing compliance programs, drafting and negotiating clinical trial agreements, operationalizing regulatory controls, and creating policies, procedures and training programs.

Erik is also currently a faculty member with Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where he teaches advanced healthcare compliance, general compliance and advises master's students on thesis research and drafting.
