Polsinelli Bolsters Nonprofit Practice with Addition of Jonathan Grissom in Southern California

Polsinelli is pleased to announce that Jonathan A. Grissom has joined the firm’s national Nonprofit Organizations Practice as a principal in Southern California, underscoring the firm’s continued expansion in the region. Grissom is the fourth shareholder to join Polsinelli’s expanding Southern California footprint this year, following the additions of Shareholders Ron Grace, Matthew Friedrich and Carl Steen.

Grissom brings more than two decades of experience guiding nonprofits through complex legal, tax and operational challenges unique to nonprofit organizations. His practice spans the full nonprofit lifecycle, from formation and exemption applications to compliance, governance and sophisticated financing strategies. He previously chaired the Tax Exempt Organizations Committee of the California Lawyers Association, Taxation Section.

“Jonathan’s deep knowledge of nonprofit law and his experience representing such a wide array of organizations make him a tremendous addition to our team advising nonprofits across the country,” said Lisa M. Schultes, Chair of Polsinelli’s Nonprofit Organizations Practice. “His ability to counsel clients on issues ranging from tax exemption and fiscal sponsorships to lobbying and joint ventures further strengthens our group’s ability to provide comprehensive guidance to clients in the nonprofit sector.”

Grissom works closely with public charities, private foundations, research institutes, hospitals, advocacy groups, religious and educational institutions, trade associations and philanthropic organizations. He regularly advises on federal and state tax-exempt applications, charitable solicitation, program-related investments and nonprofit mergers and dissolutions. In addition, Grissom represents organizations before the IRS, the California Franchise Tax Board, the State Board of Equalization and the California Attorney General’s Office.

“Jonathan’s arrival reflects our continued investment in Southern California,” said Arthel McDaniel III, Co-Managing Partner of Polsinelli’s Los Angeles office. “As we build on this growth momentum, we remain focused on attracting top talent and strengthening our ability to serve clients across California and nationwide.”

“I am excited to join Polsinelli and look forward to contributing my experience and passion for nonprofit organizations to serve the firm’s clients and uphold its commitment to excellence,” said Grissom.

Grissom earned an LL.M. in Taxation and a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law and a B.S. from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
