Advocacy Grounded in Policy and Regulatory Depth
Our attorneys and policy professionals utilize multi-faceted strategies to reach the various branches of government and major stakeholder communities, as highlighted below.
- Federal Legislative Advocacy. We develop fact-based, compelling issue narratives to educate policymakers and the public, draft proposed legislation, and build political support for initiatives through strategic coalitions and partnerships. We speak directly to lawmakers and officials to elevate our clients’ issues and advance meaningful changes to public policy. Our capabilities additionally include preparing clients to testify before Congress and supporting government affairs activities such as legislative fly-ins, Congressional briefings, and internal/external communications.
- Federal Agency Advocacy. As policymaking increasingly extends beyond Congress to federal departments and agencies, effective advocacy must integrate both legislative and administrative strategies. We help clients manage federal regulatory changes by connecting with agency decision makers and identifying avenues to inform and affect policies, such as filing comments and offering innovative approaches to design or reform federal programs.
- State and Local Public Policy. Our team in Jefferson City, Missouri represents clients before the state legislature, executive agencies, municipalities, and other public bodies. This work extends to direct advocacy, drafting testimony, and providing counsel on regulatory and administrative matters affecting their operations.
- Budget and Appropriations. We recognize that the annual spending process provides an opportunity to achieve advocacy priorities. Our professionals work with organizations to draft funding requests, secure Congressional and third-party support, and navigate the budget process from committee action through agency implementation.
- Health Care and Life Sciences Policy. Our Public Policy Group has significant background in developing Medicare coverage, coding, and reimbursement strategies to achieve favorable payment policies on behalf of clients. We work with providers, health systems, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and other industry participants to bring these issues before Congress and key executive agencies such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Our team also has worked extensively with Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs). This multi-pronged approach communicates critical issues across government regarding patient access and workforce development and is designed to facilitate the pathway to market.
