Clients facing government scrutiny turn to former U.S. Attorney Kurt R. Erskine for strategic counsel grounded in more than two decades at the Department of Justice. Kurt helps health care providers, companies, organizations and individuals manage enforcement risk, respond to investigations, and defend high-stakes criminal and civil litigation. Having tried dozens of federal jury cases to verdict and handled hundreds of complex enforcement matters at the Department of Justice and now in private practice, Kurt brings a prosecutor's perspective, a trial lawyer's judgment and a practical understanding of how the government builds cases.

As Chair of Polsinelli's Government Investigations practice, Kurt leads internal and government investigations, white-collar defense and complex litigation, False Claims Act defense and securities litigation. He represents clients in civil and criminal matters involving allegations of financial fraud, securities fraud, public corruption. From the first indication of an government inquiry through resolution or trial, Kurt helps clients make informed decisions while protecting their business operations, reputations and long-term objectives.

As U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, Kurt directed all federal criminal prosecutions and federal civil litigation across Atlanta and northern Georgia. He led more than 100 criminal and civil prosecutors and over 130 professional staff, coordinated with approximately 300 law enforcement agencies and managed one of the largest districts in the United States. That leadership experience gives him valuable insight into enforcement priorities, charging and settlement decisions may by prosecutors, and the practical considerations that shape government investigations.

During two decades, Kurt also served as First Assistant United States Attorney, Chief of the Public Integrity and Special Matters Section and criminal Health Care Fraud Coordinator. In those roles, he handled some of the district's most sensitive and high-profile matters, including cases involving allegations of complex financial, tax and health care fraud and public corruption. This breadth of experience enables him to assess risk quickly, anticipate investigative strategy and build a focused defense.

Before joining the Department of Justice, Kurt practiced in health care litigation and health care compliance. That experience continues to inform his counsel to clients operating in highly regulated environments.
