Polsinelli Continues Nashville and M&A Growth with Robert Sweeter
Polsinelli continues to expand its Mergers & Acquisitions Practices nationally and in Nashville with the addition of Robert P. Sweeter as a shareholder. Sweeter is the tenth shareholder to join the firm’s M&A practices in 2026, furthering Polsinelli’s investment in experienced transactional attorneys across key markets.
Sweeter counsels companies and investors on mergers and acquisitions and other strategic corporate transactions, drawing on substantial in-house and private practice experience. His experience spans health care, manufacturing, technology, energy, retail and real estate, with particular experience in financially complex situations.
“Our M&A growth has been focused on adding experienced attorneys in markets where we see strong client demand and opportunities to deepen our transactional capabilities,” said Chad C. Stout, Chair of Polsinelli’s Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. “Robert’s addition in Nashville advances that strategy while adding a perspective shaped by years of working directly alongside senior business leaders on acquisitions and other complex business matters.”
Sweeter’s arrival reflects the continued coast-to-coast expansion of Polsinelli’s Mergers & Acquisitions Practices, with recent shareholder additions spanning major markets across the country. Those additions include Matthew S. Miller in Nashville, Christian Fabian and Kevin A. Uhler in Chicago, Patrick P. Degnan in Phoenix, Jon T. Beeman in Kansas City, Jonathan D. Salm in Fort Lauderdale, Jonathan K. Kitchen and Daniel E. Cohen in New York and Mark C. Bussey in Denver. His addition also deepens that growth in Nashville, where Miller recently joined the firm’s Health Care Mergers & Acquisitions Practice.
Most recently, Sweeter held senior legal roles with a Swiss-based global building materials manufacturer, where he advised business leaders on acquisitions, strategic initiatives and complex commercial matters. He also led the enterprise-wide legal function supporting sourcing and supply chain transactions and served as lead counsel to the company’s global trading business, advising on cross-border commercial transactions and international sales.
Previously, Sweeter served as general counsel and a founding member of the executive team of a technology marketplace company, where he built and led the legal function as the business grew from concept to a nationwide platform and later advised on its sale. Earlier in his career, Sweeter spent more than a decade in private practice with international and national law firms, advising companies, lenders and investors on acquisitions, divestitures and corporate finance transactions, with significant experience involving financially distressed businesses and complex capital structures, including transactions involving health care companies and assets.
“I’m excited to join Polsinelli at a time when the firm is making a significant investment in its M&A platform,” said Sweeter. “Having advised on transactions both as outside counsel and from inside businesses, I understand the importance of approaching a transaction with a clear view of the commercial and financial objectives behind it, not just the legal issues. Polsinelli’s collaborative approach and national platform are a strong fit for the way I work with clients.”
Sweeter earned his J.D., with honors, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and his B.S. from Illinois State University.
Polsinelli’s M&A practices serve as strategic partners to companies across industries and growth stages, combining high-volume deal experience with steady, senior-led guidance. Drawing on the firm’s national platform, dedicated deal teams work with in-house personnel, bankers and other advisers on strategic transactions from initial negotiations through closing and post-closing integration. The team represents buyers and sellers in a range of transactions, including strategic and add-on acquisitions, carve-outs, spin-offs, recapitalizations, roll-ups and domestic and cross-border deals.
