Lisa Katz uses her passion for law to bring a unique hybrid skill set to both the health care transactional and regulatory compliance spaces, as well as the financial services industry.

Using her prior experience working both in-house at a Chicago for-profit hospital and a national Am Law 200 firm, on behalf of Lisa's health care provider clients, she acts somewhat as an outside general counsel and interprets a broad range of regulatory, corporate and compliance issues. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Privacy and security of health information, including HIPAA
  • Medicare, Medicaid and commercial reimbursement
  • Licensing and fraud and abuse matters
  • Corporate and contractual arrangements involving hospitals, clinics, surgery centers, physician groups and long term care and senior housing facilities
  • Clinical integration, alignment and space sharing arrangements between hospitals, health systems and physician groups

With respect to Lisa's lender and bank clients, Lisa documents, negotiates and closes a wide variety of loan transactions with specific experience relative to credit facilities within the health care industry. She has extensive experience representing lenders in financing transactions for acute care, long-term care and senior housing, home health, hospice and behavioral health providers, among others, across the country. These loans include, but are not limited to, revolving lines of credit, term loans (both unsecured and those secured by real estate and/or business assets, including Medicare, Medicaid and other government receivables), bridge-to-HUD loans, and HUD-intercreditor arrangements. Lisa’s multi-disciplinary approach to health care finance transactions benefits her clients as a result of her previous work on both sides of these matters, as she understands not only the legal, but also the business, operational, regulatory, public policy and finance issues involved for all parties. Moreover, the diligence she oversees in representing lenders in these transactions most often benefits the borrower as well, for compliance and risk mitigation purposes.

Lisa’s bifurcated practice provides many opportunities for her to make valuable introductions between lenders and healthcare providers all around the country, in order to meet the needs of all parties involved. She and her team have led transactions in almost all 50 states, with portfolios of healthcare facilities as large as 60.

She also provides pro bono legal services to organizations such as the National Health Law Program, the oldest non-profit of its kind that protects and advances the health rights of low-income and underserved individuals by advocating, educating and litigating at the federal and state levels. Lisa understands that health care impacts everyone in some way, shape, or form and that drives her to combine her substantive legal knowledge with her empathy and concern for others in a way that is unmatched.

Lisa leads Polsinelli’s Path to Success Program as part of the Women’s Empowerment Committee and helps to ensure that women across the firm, nationwide, can build relationships within and outside of the firm and gain the tools, resources and insight necessary to achieve success.
