Matthew Frontz combines an engineer’s pragmatic approach with a patent attorney’s problem-solving skills to fully understand clients’ needs and resolve their challenges. Matthew assists clients in the areas of prosecution, acquisition, maintenance and enforcement of patents and related intellectual property rights. Matthew also manages patent and trademark portfolios, and assists companies in protecting and commercializing their intellectual property. Before beginning his legal career, Matthew was a software and systems engineer with EMC Corp and Hitachi. He works in a variety of roles, primarily focusing on data storage technologies.
Matthew has successfully represented technology clients in complex patent infringement suits involving a variety of technologies. Matthew has also represented technology clients in post grant proceedings including inter partes review and reexaminations before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Matthew has successfully prosecuted applications and obtained patents before the USPTO, in the field of electrical, computer, and software technologies, along with experience in conducted appeals before the Patent Trial and Appeals Board. Matthew also counsels clients on patent portfolio management and has experience in preparing validity, non-infringement and freedom to operate opinions. In addition, Matthew’s practice includes transactional matters such as drafting and negotiating technology licenses, transfer, joint development, confidentiality and other intellectual property-related agreements, and conducting intellectual property due diligence investigations.
