Muthuramanan “Ramana” Rameswaran advises health care organizations, investors and provider platforms on the regulatory and transactional issues that shape strategic growth, alignment and operational integration. Drawing on experience inside hospital systems and the pharmaceutical industry, he counsels physician groups, hospitals, health systems and private equity-backed health care organizations on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, affiliation models and complex organizational structures. Ramana is particularly valued for his ability to navigate highly regulated arrangements with a practical understanding of how legal, operational and business considerations intersect in the delivery of care.
Ramana advises clients on a broad range of health care regulatory and compliance matters, including federal and state fraud and abuse laws, corporate practice of medicine, telehealth, provider reimbursement, clinical trials and operational compliance issues. He also counsels clients on health care policy and regulatory strategy, helping organizations assess risk while advancing business and growth objectives in an evolving regulatory environment.
Before entering private practice, Ramana gained in-house experience at Temple University Health System and Avantor Performance Materials, a manufacturer serving the electronics and health sciences industries. He also has experience working with pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers and suppliers, giving him additional perspective on the operational and regulatory challenges facing health care and life sciences organizations.
Ramana’s background also includes medical training at Temple University School of Medicine, where he completed coursework and clinical rotations toward a Doctor of Medicine degree before pursuing a legal career. Earlier in his career, he worked at Merck Sharp & Dohme manufacturing measles, mumps and rubella vaccines in a good manufacturing practices environment. Known for his depth across health care regulation, operations and policy, Ramana is a sought-after speaker and commentator on the legal and business issues shaping the modern health care industry. Outside his legal practice, Ramana is an Eagle Scout, a nationally registered EMT and a certified emergency medical services instructor for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
